KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is heading a four-member delegation to Libya as part of a visit that will also take him to Ethiopia.
Gonsalves is expected to attend the meeting of the African Union in Addis Abba after holding discussions with officials in Tripoli.
Last year, Libya sent a delegation to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for talks with Organisation of Eastern Caribbean leaders and agreed to establish a commercial bank in the sub-region.
According to the “Declaration of Kingstown” issued after the talks, Libya said it intends to “promote its relations with the countries of the Eastern Caribbean and to contribute to raising the level of economic development in the region.”
Gonsalves told Parliament on Friday that the visit to the African countries is part of his administration’s foreign policy that includes closer relationship “in a structured manner with African states”.
